 Between 1984 and 1994, ther was a very rich historiography concerning the Waldenses from the Alps, at the end of the Middle Ages, before they became Protestants. Numerous studies achieved during these years have not succeeded in freeing themselves from the historical pivot, represented by the Protestant Reformation. They lost sight of the very nature, characteristics and peculiarity of an religious movement, which could not foresee the fact that it would join Protestant Reformation. This article presents this important historical debate.
